My Therapeutic Approach
I believe the relationship between client and counsellor is paramount to the outcome of counselling. Counselling is not about advice, it is about having a safe space to explore your feelings and gain a greater understanding of the stress or worry you may be experiencing.
My counselling training is integrative, which means I have experience in several different modalities of therapy. My approach is humanistic and my training included evidence based therapies,. such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I have a keen interest in Solution Focused Therapy. My main objective is to meet a clients needs and work collaboratively in deciding what the best therapeutic approach is for each client.
The identification goals is often beneficial for clients, to help them understand what they want to gain from therapy and explore expectations.
About Me
My journey began in NUIG in 2013 when I started a two year diploma in The Psychology of Counselling. Successfully completing this course gave me focus and enhanced my desire to work with people on a one to one basis in there time of need.
I continued my academic journey to enabled me to work as a qualified Counsellor. I completed a 4 year Degree in ICHAS Limerick where I gained a B.A and B.A (Hons) in Counselling & Psychotherapy.
I have been very fortunate to have gained my counselling experience within two established Professional Counselling Organisations in Galway City and County, I have been privileged to work with people who have experienced many different struggles in life including anxiety, depression, low-self esteem and relationship issues. The experience gained also allowed me to work as a group facilitator in an Addiction Centre.
I am now an Accredited member of the Association of Professional Counsellors & Psychotherapist (APCP).

Taking the First Step
I understand how hard it can be to take that first step to engage with a counsellor and arrive to your first appointment. It can be difficult asking for support and can often make us feel vulnerable. It's important to remember that your journey begins once you take that first step and make contact.
Remember, Nothing Changes, if Nothing Changes !

The first Session
Our first meeting will involve an intake form. This is a brief assessment with simple things such as your name, address and phone number or any previous counselling or difficulties you may have experienced. This form also covers confidentiality explaining that everything is you say is safe and confidential and will not be repeated unless I am made aware that you are a risk to yourself, another, or a minor is in danger.
